Birla Institute of applied Science (BIAS) founded by Mr.B.M.Birla , in the then developing Bhimtal industrial belt. The aim was to provide basic workshop facilities and testing grounds for entrepreneurs to set up industrial units in the region.
With the backing of educational institutions like Birla Institute of Technology, Mesra, Ranchi and B.M.Birla Science & Technology Centre, Jaipur , it was a natural progression that an academic institution was established in the same campus with renowned industrialists Mr. G.P.Birla & Mr.C.K.Birla being amongst its founding members.
The Birla institute in Bhimtal commenced its academic programme in 1989 in computer education, leading to MCA degree awarded by Kumaun University. Expanding the horizons for professional education, the institute also started a 3-year postgraduate B.Tech course in Electronics & Communication in the session 2000-01. This course has now been converted into a 4-year program (post 10+2) with effect from the academic year 2003-04.
Birla Institute of Applied Science is affiliated to the Kumaun University and Uttarakhand Technical University. BIAS Bhimtal is a fully residential institute that offers two courses: MCA and B.Tech (ECE & CS), both of which are approved by the AICTE (All India Council Of Technical Education).
The Following Courses are offered here at Birla Institute of Applied Sciences.
- Master of Computer Applications - MCA (45 seats)
- Bachelors of Technology (Electronics And Communications) - B Tech (30 seats)
- Bachelors of Technology (Computer Science) (30 seats)
For Admission in MCA course , an aspirant has to appear in UKSEE ( Uttarakhand State Entrance Examination) conducted by Uttarakhand Technical University. More information for UKSEE can be seen on www.uktech.ac.in. Admission is done strictly on merit of UKSEE rank through a counselling conducted by UTU,Dehradun ,according to state government norms.
For Admission in BTECH course, an aspirant has to appear in AIEEE (All India Engineering Entrance Examination). The admission is done through an online counselling conducted by UTU, Dehradun. More information can be seen on www.uktech.ac.in.
Admission for lateral entry courses is also done by UTU, Dehradun on the basis of rank of UKSEE. An aspirant must have Diploma/ B.Sc(PCM) and have domicile of Uttarakhand.
