Pragya TV acquires exclusive coverage rights of Char Dham
6 May 2008
Pragya TV has acquired exclusive TV rights of the annual gate-opening ceremony of the Char Dham (four abodes) pilgrimage sites. The right has been given by the Uttarakhand Tourism Development Board.
“We are extremely glad to have got the television rights but getting there is quite a lot of work to be done. The crew will have to trek to reach these sites and the terrain is rather difficult,” said Pragya TV programming head Pragyan Bhattacharya.
Char Dham is the most important Hindu pilgrimage circuit in the Indian Himalayas. Located in the Garhwal section of the state of Uttarakhand, the circuit consists of four sites—Yamunotri, Gangotri, Kedarnath and Badrinath.
“Our crew is in place for the coverage. A crew of 25 will cover the Yamunotri and Badrinath events and two different teams of 8 each will go to Gangotri and Kedarnath,” Bhattacharya added.
The channel will start their coverage of the pilgrimage sites at 8 am on 7 May where they will air live feed from Gangotri. Deferred live clips of the ceremony at Kedarnath and Yamunotri will be broadcast on 8 May in the afternoon time band.
At 3:30 am on 9 May, live coverage of the ceremony from Badrinath will start, which will have a repeat telecast at 8 am.
“We are also looking at selling these exclusive footages to interested parties. We have started with the marketing and we expect to get some good response as this is a big event,” said Bhattacharya.
