GMVN to launch toll-free tourist helpline-1008 in Uttarakhand

Garhwal Mandal Vikas Nigam (GMVN) is planning to launch a toll-free tourist helpline-1008, in Uttarakhand, within two months with the support of Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL). The helpline will provide relevant information regarding various tourist destinations in the state. GMVN is also planning to provide Internet facility at tourist spots with help of National Informatics Centre (NIC). The Nigam will also take concrete steps to promote angling and river rafting at various places in the state. Apart from this, in a bid to promote tourism in the state, GMVN has identified 50 Tourist Rest Houses (TRH) for upgradation.

Confirming the plan to launch a toll-free helpline, Umesh Aggarwal, Chairman, Garhwal Mandal Vikas Nigam (GMVN) said, “BSNL officials have assured us of all assistance for starting the toll-free tourist helpline. This toll-free number will provide all information regarding tourist spots and act like a guide. Our aim is to promote tourism and to provide tourists with varied facilities such as Internet, toll-free help numbers, wireless connection etc.” He further added, “We have decided to promote the TRHs, located at offbeat places on our website. In order to attract tourists to visit places other than the regular spots, hoardings and kiosks will be installed soon. Apart from this special consideration will be given to advertisement of tourist places that are less popular.”
