Petrol, diesel becomes cheaper in Uttarakhand

Dehradun, 14 Jun 2008 (PTI)

After flip-flops, the Uttarakhand government has lowered the price of petrol and diesel by another 50 paise.

With the cut being effected from today, prices of petrol now stand at Rs 51.65 per litre and diesel at Rs 36.40 per litre, officials said here.

Till Friday, petrol in the city was sold at Rs 52.15 per litre and diesel at Rs 36.90, under the new mechanism announced by the state government on Tuesday. But the move came in under sharp criticism, after it was realised that the methodology adopted by the government to fix the price of petrol had actually increased it by 28 paise.

Following the criticism, the government announced a further cut in prices of petrol and diesel by 50 paise.

Prior to Tuesday’s announcement, petrol was being sold at Rs 51.87 per litre and diesel Rs 37.02 per litre.
