Engineers opposed to reservations

Expressing solidarity with the agitation, the Uttarakhand Jal Vidyut Nigam Limited (UPCL), Uttarakhand Power Corporation Limited (UJVNL) and Power Transmission Corporation of Uttarakhand Limited (PTCUL) engineers boycotted their work and shouted slogans against the State Government’s decision about reservations in promotions in Dehradun on Wednesday.

They also threatened to hit the roads if the State failed to redress their grievances in the given time frame. A meeting of engineers was held at Yamuna Colony, Dehradun. The engineers expressed their concern over the recently passed orders against reservation in promotion in Government departments. Agitators lamented that Union Government for trying to pass the bill by surpassing the court orders. They said that reservations in promotions should be completely banned in Government establishments as it demoralises hard working employees. According to them, reservation of seats has never helped any community in their upliftment. Engineers under Uttarakhand Power Juniors’ Engineers Association, Uttarakhand Urja Kamgaar Sangathan, Power Lekha Association, Uttarakhand Hydro Electric Employees Union ad Uttarakhand Bijli Karamchari Sangh were present.
