The National Cadet Corps (NCC) would start its 17th directorate in Uttaranchal, Director General NCC Lt Gen Mohan C Bhandari said here.
NCC is growing in the country in keeping with its image as “the largest uniform force in the world”, Bhandari told reporters here.
“We are growing further and around 4,000 colleges and schools and 500 Kendriya Vidyalaya are waitlisted for NCC,” he said.
Bhandari, who is in Goa on an official tour, met Chief Minister Pratapsingh Rane yesterday and discussed plans to start Goa group headquarters. “The Chief Minister has responded positively and soon we will see the results,” he said.
Though NCC is a 15 lakh strong force in the country, the force includes only 3.8 per cent of the eligible student community. “Of the entire force, 37 per cent are girls and we want to increase their percentage,” he said.
The NCC has two training academies, 95 group headquarters and 774 units, he said.
