For the past one-fortnight, protests have mounted in Uttarakhand over the new domicile policy of the BJP government.
From parties like the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) to the Congress, all are opposing the domicile policy drawing parallel with the controversial Article 370 with the government trying to downplay the issue.
Under the tough domicile policy, only all those persons who have been living in Uttarakhand before 1950 are entitled for the domicile certificate which gives them benefit of government jobs and seats in educational institutions as well as caste certificates. The remaining people who have bought any property or were living as tenants since 1950 are being denied any such right.
A series of protest rallies have taken place in the capital city with political parties also raising the issue inside the vidhan sabha forcing its repeated adjournments as the government seek domicile certificates for issuing caste certificates and giving jobs. PTI
