Vijay Bahuguna to seek Central aid for 2013 event

The Nanda Devi Raj Jat Yatra to be held in 2013 is one of the biggest opportunity for promoting tourism and culture of Uttarakhand.

Inaugurating the digital map and website about the route and other important aspects of this yatra prepared by the Uttarakhand Space Application Centre (USAC), Uttarakhand Chief Minister Vijay Bahuguna said that he would meet the President and Prime Minister to discuss the event and seek assistance from the Centre.

The CM said that the State will publicise this unique pilgrimage at the national and international levels using all its available resources and with resources sought from the Central Government. “Considering the difficult terrain and high-altitude regions the yatra passes through, there is need for a mock drill to check aspects related to the health, shelter, food and security for the yatris,” he said. Bahuguna also commended USAC for preparing the detailed website.

Health, Science and Technology Minister SS Negi said that the website will allow people to enjoy and learn about this unique event while sitting at home. He also spoke about the other important initiatives being undertaken by USAC in order to redress the various problems faced in different sectors, including natural resource management, education and medical facilities.

Tourism and Culture minister Amrita Rawat stressed on the need for making the Raj Jat more convenient for pilgrims. The Tourism department is planning to install waterproof tents for the pilgrims, she added.
