Furious over the corruption and spiralling rise of the prices of essential commodities, hundreds of BJP activists staged one-day protest State under “Jail Bharo” campaign in Dehradun on Friday. After raising anti-UPA Government slogan during procession, the BJP activists threatened to continue stir in the coming days in support of their pending demands.
Hundreds of BJP activists led by party’s State in-charge Thawar Chand Gehlot, former Chief Minister Maj Gen (retd) BC Khanduri, former Vidhan Sabha Speaker Harbans Kapoor and Mayor Vinod Chamoli among others gathered at Parade Ground based BJP district office, on Friday and took out a rally that reached district headquarter campus via Ashley hall, Clock Tower, Panchyati Mandir chowk.
The members were shouting anti-Congress and UPA slogans and waiving placards like Garib ko jeene do (let poor live). Later, activists courted arrest as part of the BJP’s nationwide “Jail Bharo” agitation against inflation and corruption under UPA-led Union Government. Scores of youths from different wings and women activists also shouted anti-Government slogans and threatened to hit the road in the coming days also. The agitators and officials had heated argument as they were demanding arrest as a part of their agitation.
Meanwhile, scores of activists shouted anti-Government slogans and said that it is extremely difficult for a common man to earn her/his livelihood. They also agitated outside the campus that resulted in bumper to bumper traffic jams. The activists courted arrest and were released after few minutes of their arrest. Addressing the activists, Gehlot said that rampant corruption under the Congress-led UPA Government had caused unprecedented drop in the growth rate and spiralling inflation, making the life of ‘aam admi’ miserable.
They said the BJP would continue to fight against these evils for the welfare of the common man and said that several cases of corruption were unearthed during the Congress regime across the country.
Khanduri lamented that power scenario has been deteriorating with each passing day in the State due to the wrongful policies being implemented by the Congress-led State Government. He said that the rate of progress has come down in the State since the Congress Government was formed in Uttarakhand due to their wrongful policies being implemented during their regime. He also expressed his concern over the horse-trading done by the State Government.
Mahanagar BJP general secretary Sunil Gama, BJP youth morcha president Ranjit Bhandari, senior activists Ravindra Jugran, Dr BK Nautiyal, Umesh Agarwal, Vinay Goyal, Puneet Mittal, Ajayendra Ajay, OP Uniyal, Jeevan Singh, Babita Sahotra, Ravindra Kataria, Bhagwat Makwana, Shamim Alam and hundreds of activists courted arrest and were released.
