Day wise Itinerary of Bali Pass Trek Package (7 Days)

Day 1
Dehradun to Sankri (8 hours)

Take an early morning bus to Sankri from Mussoorie Bus Stand near Dehradun Railway Station. You can also opt for a direct bus to Purola and take a cab from there to Sankri Village. After crossing Netwar you will enter Govind Ballabh Pant Wildlife Sanctuary. Sankri is a small village that acts as Base Camp for popular treks like Kedarkantha & Har ki Doon Valley. There is a GMVN Guest House, few hotels and a couple of Village Homestay options available at Sankri.

Day 2
Sankri – Taluka – Seema
Drive12 kmsTrek14 kms

You can cover 12kms distance from Sankri to Taluka in a cab, the road is not well maintained though and it takes around 40 minutes. If there is a blockage due to landslide then you might have to cover this distance by hiking. Taluka village is situated at 2,410mts above sea level. The trekking route from Taluka to Seema stays on the right side of Supin River and passes through dense forest of chestnut, walnut and chinars. Couple of wooden bridges with picture perfect setting keeps you well occupied. Taluka to Seema can be easily covered in maximum 6hrs.

There are a couple of alternative routes that you will come across that leads to different Jaunsari villages, the locals are helpful and many trekkers can be seen during the trek. Do not hesitate to ask for help if confused. 8kms on the trail and you will come across a village with numerous wooden houses on the left, this is Gangad Village where you can halt for maggi or tea. It takes another 2 hours to reach Seema from Gangad. There is a GMVN Guest House at Seema along with couple of shops and houses, limited camping ground available though.

Day 3
Seema – Dev Thatch – Untigad Campsite/RuinsaraTal

It is always better to start off early, particularly on this day. Few steps out of Seema and you will come across a giant bridge over Supin River, trekkers leading to Hark ki Doon Valley follow that trail, you have to stick on the right and avoid the bridge. After a gradual climb of 2 hours you will reach Dev Thatch meadow which 2kms in length but not that wide. You will have to cross Ruinsara Gad for a few times after crossing Dev Thatch. Ruinsara forest area is rich in vegetation but it will keep on receding as you climb up.

Note: Generally this trekking stretch is covered in 2 days depending upon the weather condition. But if you manage to pull it off you can save 1 day which can be used as a buffer day if required later.

Day 4
Untigad Campsite/Ruinsara Tal – Bali Pass Base Camp (Odari)

Ruinsara Tal is hidden lake surrounded by birch & bhojpatra trees. Ruinsara Tal (3630mts) is an ideal campsite but also exposed to cold winds coming from Kala Nag & Banderpoonch Glacier. It is a short but steep walk to reach Bali Pass Base Camp with stunning views of Swargarohini Peak. The route to Kyarkoti & Kala Nag Base Camp also branches off between the trail. One can further hike to advanced base camp only if there are no signs of altitude sickness.

Day 5
Bali Pass Base Camp (Odari) – Bali Pass – Damini Forest Camping Ground

You can never predict the moods of weather at such high altitude so keep it a task to start at around 4-5am. This is the toughest day of the Bali Pass Trek where you not only climb steep through crevasse zone but require assistance of technical gears like crampons and rope as well. Keep climbing the vast snowscapes that will lead you to Bali Pass (5000mts). The 360 degree view from Bali Pass will be a hug from the Himalayas. Steep and tricky descent from is involved to reach Damini Camping ground from Bali Pass. It will take minimum 8 hours to complete this stretch and the most rewarding day of this trek.

Day 6
Damini Forest Camping Ground – Yamunotri – Janki Chatti – Barkot
