Oak Grove School is a residential public School, currently owned and run by the Northern Railway. It is situated on hill tops covering 256 acres in Jharipani, Mussoorie, India.
The Oak Grove School was started by British East India Company on June 1, 1888. The students are the children of the Indian Railways employees with only 25% of the seats reserved for outsiders. At present there are 560 students.
The School is affiliated to the CBSE (Central Board of Secondary Education), New Delhi, and the studies in the senior Classes reflect all the high and low points of the CBSE system. However, from Class III to Class VIII, the education is characteristic of Oak Grove.
The level of education provided in these classes is lightly higher than the standard, so the students entering Class IX in the phase of centrally regulated syllabus find it quite easy! In the Junior Section ( Classes III to V ) – it is mainly about the languages, Science, Social Sciences, Value Education and soft skills like music, dance, art and crafts. Class IX onwards, the regulated CBSE syllabus is taught.
Admission in Oak Grove School
Admission for class III is granted on the basis of performance of the child in the Entrance Test which is conducted on the last Sunday of November at Dehradun. Short listed candidates are called for interview / activity test at Dehradun or school premises.
Admission Test basically aims at judging the aptitude of the child in Maths, English and General Knowledge with special emphasis on understanding of English Language and proficiency in spoken and written English. The child is tested for a level which is one class lower than that for which admission is sought.
Admission to class XI is offered, in case the seats are vacant, on the basis of performance in class X Board Examinations in the month of June. A written aptitude test and viva-voce is held before admission is granted in class XI. The school offers all the three streams: Science, Humanities and Accounts besides Computer as an option in classes XI and XII. The application form seeking admission to class XI is to be forwarded between 2nd to 12th June to the Principal’s Office. Combined five seats are reserved for the wards of NRIs and Old oakgrovians.
Admission to Class X and XII is not granted. The school does not undertake to assign any reason for refusing admission. Session The school session is from April to March with two vacations one from 3rd June to 23rd June and the other from 1st December to 31st January. Home Final Examinations are held in the month of March and Board Final Examinations are held in the month of March/April. No student can stay back at the school during the vacations.

Its board of governors comprises of the Northern Railway top brass – with the General Manager as the Chairperson, and the Chief Personnel Officer as the Executive Governor. The Principal is an officer of the Indian Railway Personnel Service (IRPS).
