Bhojbasa is a scenic spot on the rugged terrains, situated at an altitude of 3,775 mts above sea level. Bhojbasa can be reached by14 kms trek that starts from Gangotri. The trek goes through rugged terrains along with the Bhagirathi River. Bhojwasa acts as the last point of accommodation on the way to the sacred Gaumukh Glacier. It is situated 5 kms before Gaumukh Glacier, the source of the river Ganges. This beautiful place offers enchanting views of the Bhagirathi peaks (6,856 mts). The Bhagirathi sisters hold the Gangotri glacier.

Chirbasa (3,350 meters) literally suggests “abode of chir or pine trees”. The route from Chirbasa to Bhojbasa can turn out to be dangerous because of loose rocks falling on the trail. Bhojbasa is also written as Bhojwasa. Bhojbasa is a vast open expanse of land in the valley. The Himalayan peaks visible during this trek are Shivling, Thalay Sagar, Meru, Bhagirathi III etc. In recent times, the retreat of the glacier has quickened extensively. Major steps have been taken by the government of Uttarakhand towards this severe problem. Now only 100 persons can trek to Gaumukh each day.

How to reach Bhojbasa?

Buses to Uttarkashi and Gangotri are easily available from Dehradun, Haridwar and Rishikesh. Bhojwasa can be reached by a 14 km easy trek on rocky terrain.

Delhi – Meerut – Haridwar – Rishikesh – Chamba – Uttarkashi – Harsil – Gangotri - Trekking (14 kms) – Bhojbasa

Do visit the sacred Gangotri Temple while traveling to Bhojbasa. There are numerous moderate and strenuous trekking options in this region. You can go for Gaumukh, Tapovana and Nandanvan trek while on the route to Bhojbasa. While trailing back fom Bhojbasa to Gangotri you can go for 18 kms Kedar Tal trek. Harsil is a popular spot in the region which doesn’t require trekking.
