The Chandrabadni Devi Temple is a Hindu shrine, located in a tiny hamlet called Jamnikhal in Tehri Garhwal district of Uttarakhand. Chandrabadni Temple is a one of the Shakti Peeths and holy shrine of Goddess Sati. 

A place of faith and devotion, Chandrabadni Temple lies at an height of 2277 mtrs on Chandrabadni mountain which was also known as Chandrakoot mountain in history. Devotees from far away place comes here for worshipping Goddess Sati and take blessings.

Chandrabadni Temple in New Tehri

Chandrabadni Temple is located on the place where torso of Goddess Sati fell while Lord Shiva was taking away her burned body. Her weapons were also scattered over the place. There is no idol of Goddess Sati present in the main shrine and a Shree Yantra carved on a flat stone is being worshipped in the main shrine. In the month of April every year, a fair is organize in Chandrabadni Temple and attended by devotees in large numbers.

Chandrabadni Temple is now decorated with white tiles and marble floor. There are some shops selling Prasad and offerings like flowers, Shreefal or fruits. Small restaurants are also situated having limited eatables and refreshments.

According to a Hindu legend, the torso of Sati fell here and her weapons were scattered all around the region. Even today her brass trishuls (tridents) and some of her figurines can be found near the temple.


Rituals, Ceremonies & Fairs at Chandrabadni Temple in Tehri Garhwal

The boutique temple is safely guarded by a Shri-yantra, skillfully carved on a flat stone instead of an idol.  Each year a cloth canopy is traditionally tied over the Shri-yantra. The Brahmin priest is blind-folded while performing the ritual. A big fair is held annually in the month of April in the premises of the Chandrabadni temple.

Since Chandrabadni Temple is located at such a great height, it offers a panoramic and scenic 360 degree views of lush green Garhwal Hills and Himalayan peaks such as Surkanda, Badrinath and Kedarnath. Chandrabadni Temple is lcoated at 33 km from Devprayag and 45 km from Srinagar. One can reach from both places i.e from Devprayag via Hindolakhal and from Srinagar via Lachmoli - Hisriyakhal. A small 1 km trek is to be done to reach Chandrabadni Temple from taxi stand. One can hire taxi to reach Chandrabadni Temple from Devprayag and Srinagar. Nearest rail connectivity is available at Dehradun (145 kms) or Rishikesh railway station (103 kms). Nearest airport for Chandrabadni Temple is Jolly Grant Airport, Dehradun (120 kms).
