Vaitarni Group of Temples in Guptkashi
The legend related to Vaitrani Kund
According to a celestial prophecy, the only child born of Shiva could kill the demon named Tarkasur therefore, the Hindu Gods sent Kamdev to disturb Shiva’s meditation as they wanted him to marry Parvati and give birth to a son. When Kamdev tried to disrupt Shiva's prolong penance which he took since Sati's demise, his wrath befell on him and Kamdev was annihilated by Lord Shiva. Grief struck by her husband's untimely death, Rati the wife of Kamdev manifested as a fish in this pond and worshipped Lord Shiva. Impressed by her devotion, Lord Shiva then revived her husband.
