Taking its seat in Guptkashi, the Vishwanath Temple bears a striking resemblance to Kashi Vishwanath temple of Varanasi. The temple has a blissful aura and the silver snow-capped peaks of Chaukhamba at the backdrop makes it all the more scenic.
The ancient Vishwanath temple boasts a remarkable architecture similar to other temples of Uttarakhand like Kedarnath built with stone, having a high tower over the sanctum and a slanting roof akin to the architectural style of the Himalayan region. One can see the image of Bhairava, a fierce avatar of Lord Shiva on the top of the door and the brightly painted lotuses that can be seen on the exterior facade of the temple. Move your eyes to the left of the main temple and you’ll come across a small shrine dedicated to Ardhanarishvara, a composite androgynous form of Lord Shiva and his consort Parvati. At the entrance of this shrine, there is a statue of Nandi, facing towards the image of Lord Shiva installed inside the temple.
