Welham Girls School (previously known as Welham Girls High School) is a boarding School for girls located at the foothills of the Himalayas in Dehradun, Uttarakhand India. A retired English headmistress, Miss Oliphant started Welham Boys School in 1937. Soon, she was struck by the lack of Schools of similar quality for the sisters of these little boys. Fired by the desire to create an equal educational platform for young Indian women in a newly independent India, she acquired a palatial estate called Nasreen adjacent to Welham Boys School to start a small boarding school for girls.
Miss Linnell became the Founder- Principal of Welham Girls School. Under Miss Linnell’s able guidance, Welham Girls’ High School, as it was known then, established itself as a full-fledged boarding School in Dehradun, India.

Registration and Admissions
The new academic session begins in early April every year. Admissions are offered in Classes VI, VII and XI only, subject to the availability of seats. The lower age limit for admission in the School is 10½ on 1st April of the year of joining the School in Class VI.
An application for registration is the first stage of the admissions process. A registration fee must be sent along with the application so that the girl’s name may be registered for the year and class for which admission is sought. The fee is neither refundable nor adjustable and it is valid only for the specified academic year. The registration of a girl is not a guarantee of her admission.
.Every girl registered for admission into Classes VI & VII is expected to appear for an Aptitude/Proficiency Assessment at the specified center closest to the individual girl’s place of residence. The Assessment is held in November/ December of the year preceding that in which admission is sought. Particulars of these Assessments are sent by the school to parents well in advance. The student is also required to pass a medical fitness test.
