Vishnuprayag
Bedecked on the holy confluence of Alaknanda and Dhauliganga rivers, Vishnuprayag is a bijou city tucked at 1,372 metres above sea level in the Chamoli district of Uttarakhand. The riveting Vishnuprayag is the first one among the Panch Prayags, the other four being Nandaprayag, Karnaprayag, Rudraprayag and Devprayag according to descending order of river.
It is here that the mighty river Alaknanda also known as 'Vishnu Ganga' blends with the river Dhauliganga that flows from the Niti Valley. There is also a suspension bridge which helps the visitors to cross the surging Alaknanda River.

Mythology of Vishnuprayag
According to a Hindu legend, sage Narada indulged in a serious penance at this place to appease Lord Vishnu “The Preserver”. Pleased with his devotion, Lord Vishnu then appeared in front of Narada and blessed him with his cosmic energy. The locals believe that Vishnu temple located about 2 km away from Vishnuprayag is the place where Lord Vishnu blessed Narada.
Best Time to Visit Vishnuprayag
Vishnuprayag can be visited in any month but the ideal time to throng this place would be from the months of February- May and from August-October.
How to reach Vishnuprayag
Vishnuprayag nestled in the Chamoli district lies on the Joshimath-Badrinath road about 35 km away from the Badrinath temple. Rishikesh railway station at 261 km away is the nearest railhead to Vishnuprayag. Taxis and buses to Joshimath are available from Rishikesh, and from Joshimath, you can get the local transport to Vishnuprayag. Jolly Grant airport at 287 km away is the closest airport from Vishnuprayag. Taxis to Vishnuprayag are easily available from this airport.
