Ramganga Dam (Kalagarh Dam)

The Ramganga Dam also referred to as Kalagarh Dam, is an earth and rock-fill embankment dam built on Ramganga River about 3 km upstream of Kalagarh in Pauri Garhwal district of Uttarakhand. This dam is located within Jima Corbett National Park. Uttarakhand Jal Vidyut Nigam Limited is the owner of this dam. The construction work of Ramganga dam began in 1961 and was completed in 1974.

The Ramganga dam is 128 m (420 ft) tall, 715 m (2,346 ft) long and has a structural volume of 10,000,000 m3(13,079,506 cu yd). The nearest city to this dam is Lansdowne, a cantonment town in Pauri Garhwal district of Uttarakhand. The Ramganga Dam was built with a purpose of irrigating the fields and generating hydroelectric power. In addition to this, it also provides for flood control and recreation. It supports a 198 MW power station and provides water for the irrigation of 57,500 ha (142,086 acres) of farmland.
