Bagwali Pokhar Fair


Bagwali Pokhar Fair is religious fair of Kumaon, Uttarakhand celebrated on Yam Dwitiya (Bhai Dooj). It is celebrated in October/November, depending on the dates of Bhai Dooj.

Where is Bagwali Pokhar Fair celebrated ?

Bagwali Pokhar fair is held at Bagwali Pokhar in Dwarahat in Ranikhet block of Almora district. In the fair various cultural and traditional programs takes place.

How Bagwali Pokhar Fair celebrated ?

During the fair lots of traditional activities take place. There is high cultural spirit among the people. A large number of people from different rural villages of Uttarakhand participate in the fair. Various cultural programs are performed by the folk artists of Uttarakhand. Earlier, gambling used to be an important part of the fair celebrations. People use to celebrate the fair by gathering around and gambling.

Significance of Bagwali Pokhar Fair

It is believed that Kauravas visited Bagwali Pokhar during exile when they were in search of Pandavas. On Bagwali Pokhar Mela ceremony of offering oda with nagadas, shankhanad and two pair of drums take place. Incredible local Sarankar dance is also performed. The folk dances and songs performed reflect the pristine heritage of the state.
