About Khajjiar

Khajjiar is a small picturesque hill station in Chamba district of Himachal Pradesh. It is a saucer shaped plateau with pine and deodar forests surrounding the region. Khajjiar is known as “Mini Switzerland” located at a distance of 24 kms from Dalhousie, another popular hill station of Himachal Pradesh. 

It is situated at an altitude of 6,500ft above sea level. It is nestled below the foothills of the impressive Dhauladhar ranges of Western Himalayas. The view from Khajjiar is breathtaking. Khajjiar has a temple, belonging to the 12th century that is dedicated to Khajji Nag. It also houses wooden images of the five Pandav brothers.

Khajjiar is located on the way from Dalhousie and Chamba. This trek will take you through the forests and Kalatop wildlife sanctuary the most amazing part is that one will camp in these jungles. Best time to visit Khajjiar

You can visit Khajjiar throughout the year but It is advisable to avoid trekking during monsoons as there can be roadblocks, landslides and the route get slippery due to heavy rainfall.

Khajjiar was officially baptized by the Swiss Ambassador on July 7, 1992.A stone from Khajjiar was taken to Berne in Switzerland where a stone sculpture was erected. Khajjiar is one of the rare places where you find an excellent conglomeration of three ecosystems: lake, pasture and forest.

Other than the enchanting scenic beauty, the 12th century Khajinag temple also known as the Golden Devi temple is also an important attraction for tourists. This is a small shrine deicated to the local Devi. Many pilgrims pay a visit to this temple regularly. The temple dates back to the 10th century and is made up of different patterns and images on the ceiling and wooden posts. Shrines of Shiva and Hadimba are situated next to the temple.

One of the important places of excursions while on a trip to Khajjiar is Kalatop, a famous wildlife sanctuary. Different species of wildlife can be found in this sanctuary.

Short Itinerary for Khajjiar

Day 1: Dalhousie to Lakkar Mandi to Khajjiar

Arrive at Dalhousie, Drive to Lakkar Mandi by jeep or car. After reaching Lakkar Mandi, start your trek to Khajjiar which is 10 km trek from Lakkar Mandi. On this trek you will witness Lush green meadows , beautiful cottages and grazing sheeps. Dinner and overnight stay at Khajjiar.

Day 2: Khajjiar to Lakkar Mandi to Dalhousie

After breakfast, its time to trek back to Lakkar Mandi and then drive to Dalhousie from Lakkar Mandi. Our services will be finished at Dalhousie.
