Kugti Pass is situated at an altitude of 5050 m above sea level near the picturesque and remote village of Kugti. Kugti Pass trek route connects the Bharmour region of Chamba valley to Chandra-Bhaga (Chenab) river in Lahaul. It is located in the Pir Panjal Range of Central Himalayas. Trekkers can also explore the Leah Cave situated at the foot of the Kugti Pass.

Kugti Pass trek is a high-altitude trek that is graded as one of the toughest treks in Himachal Pradesh. It is an unexplored part of Himachal which takes you to the highest altitude of 5090 m above sea level. The adventurous climb and tough terrain make this trek in Himachal a daunting one. Gaddi tribe uses this trekking route to cross over the two valleys which are Spiti Valley and Lahaul Valley.

Kugti Pass trek is situated under the Pir Panjal Range of the Himalayas. The trek starts from Bharmaur. There is a sacred Hindu temple situated at the top of Kugti Pass which is dedicated to Marali Devi, there are iron trinkets, bells, and some colored cloth pieces. The trail is thrilling but the summit is equally rewarding, it provides you with the best views of Manimahesh Kailash peak, Dhauladhar ranges, and Snow Cladded Mountains lying outside the Lahaul valley.

Best time to visit Kugti Pass Trek

The best time to visit Kugti Pass Trek is from mid-June to mid-October. During the starting season, you can witness lots of snow at the high passes. But in August, the snow starts melting. Avoid trekking here in the monsoon as the place witnesses heavy rainfall which occurs in landslides, roadblocks, and slippery trekking routes.

Itinerary

Day 1:- Bharmour to Hadsar

Arrive at Bharmour, and start your drive or trek to Hadsar. There is a narrow road leading to Hadsar from Bharmour which is very dangerous for cars and jeeps. So it is advisable to go by trek. Dinner and overnight stay at Hadsar.

Day 2: Hadsar to Kugti village

After breakfast, start your trek to Kugti Village from Hadsar. This initial section in the Budhil Nala involves many ups and downs. Dinner and overnight stay at Kugti Village.

Day 3: Kugti village – Duggi

After breakfast, start your trek to Duggi with a steep climb of 4km to the temple of Kelong, then 3km up to Duggi camping ground. After reaching Duggi, enjoy the surrounding of the place, dinner, and overnight stay at Duggi.

Day 4: Duggi – Alias

After breakfast, start your trek to Alias from Duggi. The trail is rough and steep to start with. Alias is a vast grassy plateau. Enjoy the beauty of the place once you reach there. Dinner and overnight stay at Alia.

Day 5: Alias – Kugti pass – Alias Got

After breakfast, start your trek to the main attraction of this trekking trail that is Kugti Pass. After Kugti Pass Trek to Alia Got. Alias signifies a grassy area usually situated below a pass. The ascent to the pass is a stiff walk over moraine and snow. Descend to Alias Got on the north side of the pass. Dinner and overnight stay at Alias Got.

Day 6: Alias Got – Jahlma

After breakfast, start your trek to Jahlma from Alia Got. The trail goes down to meet the Chandra-Bhaga river in Lahaul, cross a bridge and turn left to reach Jahlma on the Tindi-Manali highway. Dinner and overnight stay at Jahlma.

Day 7: Jahlma – Manali

After breakfast, start your drive to Manali in the Kulu valley which takes about 10 hours, and leads through the Lahaul valley to Khoksar then southwards over the Rohtang Pass by the newly developed Atal Tunnel. Our services will be finished at Manali.
