  • Sundernagar means "beautiful town," and it is indeed a lovely Himachal Pradesh town. It was the capital of a princely state known as Suket, which was founded in the 7th century by some Bengal rajputs of the Sen Dynasty. However, it is the only town in Himachal that is surrounded by hills on all sides except one, which faces the Balh valley and Mandi.
  • It is also developed as a result of the Hydel Project known as the Beas Sulluj link, which connected the Beas River with the Sutlej and built a very large man-made lake in Sundernagar. Although it is only a sub-division, it is even more developed due to the largest colony in HP of the Beas Sutlej link and many educational institutions.
