Changuch Peak

Situated at the boundary of Pithoragarh and Bageshwar district of Uttarakhand, Changuch is a Himalayan mountain peak situated above the Pindari Glacier. This peak offers a ridge leading to Nanda Kot. It lies in the Nanda Devi region of peaks.

Attempts to summit Changuch were made in the years 1987, 1997 and 2007 and all three of them had failed. These unsuccessful expeditions were through the Pindari valley. In 2009, a British expedition led by Martin Moran approached the peak from Lawan Valley, an easier route compared to the one taken by previous attempts of 1987, 1997 and 2007 and made a successful ascent on 9 June.In 2011, Indian Mountaineering Foundation sent an Indian expedition to the Changuch peak. A team of 5 members led by Dhruv Joshi ascended the peak via Pindari glacier on 17 June. This is the second ascent of Changuch and first Indian and first from Pindari Glacier side.

Out of these two, Pindari glacier route is considered easier than the Lawan valley.

The nearest place which is accessible through motorable road is Munsiyari. This place is starting point of many treks into the Kumaon Himalayas.
