Kalanag – Black Peak

Literally meaning "Black Cobra", Kalanag is one of the major peaks in the Bandarpunch mountain range, others being Bandarpunch I and Bandarpunch II. It is also known as the Black Peak. It is situated close to the Ruinsara valley. It lies within the Bandarpunch group of mountains.

The first ascent to the summit was completed in 1955 by JMT Gibson, an English master at the Doon School in Dehradun. He climbed the peak via the northwest flank and the peak has subsequently been climbed a number of times by this route.

The trekkers first get to Dehradun. The peak can be approached from the road head at Sankri. The trekking route through Taluka, Osla and Ruinsara valley leads to the base camp at Kyarkoti.
