Nanda Ghunti Peak

Situated in Chamoli district of Uttarakhand, Nanda Ghunti lies on the outer rim of the Nanda Devi Sanctuary. It has an altitude of 6,309 meters. Trekkers get a clear view of Nanda Ghunti en route to Roopkund in the Himalayas.

HISTORY
Nanda Ghunti was first surveyed by T. G. Longstaff in 1907. Legendary mountaineer Eric Shipton surveyed it from the west in 1931. In 1944, first serious attempt to reach the summit was made by British mountaineers B. R. Goodfellow and J. Buzzard.Finally, in 1947, a Swiss team under André Roch made the first ascent via the East Ridge. The first successful Indian ascent was made in 1960.

HOW TO REACH

The nearest place which is accessible through motorable road is Sitel. Roads are till Setel then trek via Sutol, Lata Ki Khopri, Chandania Ghat and then base camp (Homkund).
