The department of sociology is one of the oldest department of HNB Garhwal University. It is being run since the inception of this University. It is noteworthy, that a large number of the students are studying in the undergraduate and post-graduate classes. The research work of the department leading to D.Phil degree in Sociology has also increased during last ten years. This department is also engaged in research projects. The faculty members are regularly participating in National seminar.
The Sociology is one of the most important and job oriented subject which has vital role for betterment of the society. This department is conducting research on various social aspect including current social problems, specially regional problems which are worthwhile for the planning and regional development of Uttrakhand.The department is also running Master of Social Work (MSW) Course Under Self-Financing scheme successfully since 2007.
