GB Pant University Of Agriculture & Technology

G. B. Pant University of Agriculture and Technology (GBPUA&T) is the first agricultural university of India. It was inaugurated by Jawahar Lal Nehru on 17 November 1960 as the Uttar Pradesh Agricultural University (UPAU). Later the name was changed to Govind Ballabh Pant University of Agriculture and Technology in 1972 in memory of the great freedom fighter Govind Ballabh Pant. The University was declared as the best among all the other State Universities in India, in 1997. The University lies in the campus-town of Pantnagar in the district of Udham Singh Nagar in the state of Uttarakhand. The university is regarded as the harbinger of Green Revolution in India.

GBPUAT Pant University

Setup in 1960 under UP State Act on 15,000 acre campus, the Pant University has six outstation research centers at Ranichari, Daurala, Nagina, Majhera, Bullandshehar, and Pauri. Its silent features are:

College: Nine constituent colleges.

Faculties: Agriculture, Agri-Business Management, Basic Sciences and Humanities, Fishery Sciences, Home Science, Veterinary Science, Forestry and Hill Agriculture, Post-Graduate Studies and Technology correspond to nine respective faculties.

Academic Courses in GB Pant University

Besides a whole range of courses at UG, PG and PhD levels related to Agriculture, the University also runs postgraduate and PhD programmes in engineering, basic sciences and humanities in such areas as: Agri Communication & Extension, Biotech, Computer Sc., Food & Nutrition, Food Tech, Maths, Microbiology, Physics, Plant Physiology and Pathology, Veg Sc., Environmental Sc., Agri Statistics, Agri Chemicals, Food & Nutrition, Clothing & Textiles, Child Development.

Degrees: Bachelor in Science, Technology and Management, postgraduate and PhD degrees in most disciplines pursued in the University.

Library: Well equipped with 3,18,947 books and 1,200 subscribed periodicals, with an annual budget of about Rs. 32 lakhs.

Enrollment: About 3,000, with 70% male and 30% female students.

Vocational / Extramural / Correspondence Courses: The university runs 16 non-degree courses in areas of societal interest such as religion and culture, and also its Center for Advanced Studies in Cinema & TV production prepares films and TV programmes.

Location of Pantnagar and GBPUAT University

Pantnagar is about 250 kilometers from Delhi, 360 kilometers from Lucknow, 90 kilometers from Moradabad, 75 kilometers from Bareilly and 65 kilometers from Nainital by road. It is connected to the rest of world by the Delhi Nainital National Highway and the Bareilly Nainital Highway. A large number of state and interstate buses fly on these roads. Pantnagar Railway Station, on the Lucknow, Bareilly, Lalkuan section of North East railways, is about 4 km east of the University administrative building. Haldi road Railway station, on the Delhi Rampur Kathgodam section of northern and north eastern railways is about 3 kilometers west of the University Administrative buildings.
