Nanakmatta is an important Sikh pilgrim center which lies on the Rudrapur-Tanakpur route. It is believed that Guru Nanak, the first Sikh Guru visited this place to meditate. Thousands of pilgrims come here throughout the year. The town also got popular with the construction huge Nanakmatta Dam built across the Saryu river.

Another option is to find accommodation at Sitarganj which is located 12 kms from Nanakmatta. There are few options to stay at Khatima as well just 15 kms from Nanakmatta.

Being a small town, there are only few local restaurants that serve tea, snacks and other packaged food. Roadside dhabas in Nanakmatta mainly serve food in north Indian cuisine. Tourists can eat at these dhabas around the place or the best option is having meal at your place of stay.

Nanakmatta was previously the abode of yogis who were devotees of Guru Gorakhnath. It is situated 17kms from Khatima in Udham Singh Nagar district of Uttarakhand state. Guru Nanak Dev ji performed several devine acts at this place for the development of this region. 

Guru Nanak Dev Ji meditated at Nanakmatta for a lot of time as he was in love with the serenity and placidity of this place. There are many gurudwaras in Nanakmatta having a story of its own in association with the Guru.
