Accommodation Arrangements for 15,000 Devotees in Kedarnath During Chardham Yatra
With Kedarnath witnessing the highest number of devotees during the Chardham Yatra, special arrangements are being made for their accommodation and food. The administration is on high alert, anticipating a large influx of pilgrims in Kedarpuri.
Starting from May 2, the Kedarnath Yatra will have provisions for the night stay of up to 15,000 devotees within the Dham premises each night. Additionally, around 2,000 pilgrims will be accommodated at various halt points along the trekking route. The administration has already prepared a detailed blueprint for these arrangements, which will soon be implemented on the ground.
Night stay facilities are also being arranged at key points between Gaurikund and Kedarnath, including Junglechatti, Bhimbali, Chhoti Lincholi, Badi Lincholi, Chhani Camp, Rudra Point, and the Base Camp, ensuring that up to 2,000 pilgrims can rest comfortably en route.
Kedarnath is a small town located in the Rudraprayag district of the state of Uttarakhand. It is primarily known for the ancient Kedarnath Temple, one of the holiest Hindu pilgrimage sites dedicated to Lord Shiva and one of the twelve Jyotirlingas. It's important to note that Kedarnath is accessible only during a specific period, from April or May to October or November. The exact dates may vary each year based on weather conditions and the annual pilgrimage season.
To reach Kedarnath, the closest major city is Haridwar, which is well connected by road, rail, and air. If you prefer to fly, the nearest airport is Jolly Grant Airport in Dehradun, which is about 37 kilometers from Haridwar. And from Haridwar, you can hire a taxi, take a bus, or a shared taxi to reach Gaurikund.
Due to its remote location as compared to other Char Dham shrines, there are not many accommodation options at Kedarnath. You will find a big Govt tented colony consisted of Tents, Cottage and rooms just before Kedarnath is operated by GMVN, which are sufficient to accommodate more than a thousand pilgrims and tourists. You will also find some hotels, guest houses and dharamshalas in Kedarnath as well for night stay.
Nowadays, many tourists take Helicopters to Kedarnath for day's visit and come back from Kedarnath the same day. They generally stay in these locations: Phata, Rampur, Gaurikund, Sitapur, Sonprayag, Guptkashi, etc. You can check hotels here as well: Phata Hotels, Guptkashi hotels, Sonprayag hotels, Gaurikund Hotels and Sitapur hotels.
Kedarnath primarily offers limited accommodation options due to its remote location and the focus on the religious pilgrimage experience. The Garhwal Mandal Vikas Nigam (GMVN) operates guest houses that offer basic accommodation options for pilgrims and visitors. Dharamshalas, which offer budget accommodation, and the tented and camp facilities are set up temporarily during the pilgrimage season to cater to the influx of pilgrims. These tented camps offer basic facilities and are a convenient option for those seeking temporary shelter. It's important to note that the availability and standards of accommodation in Kedarnath can vary each year. It's advisable to check with the local authorities or travel agencies for the most up-to-date information before planning your visit.
