Haridwar recorded the maximum footfall with 3.42 crore pilgrims, followed by Dehradun (67.35 lakh) and Tehri (53.29 lakh). Popular destinations like Mussoorie, Nainital, Rishikesh, Kainchi Dham, Chopta, Munsiyari, and Harshil saw heavy tourist inflow.

The Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), Uttarakhand, has welcomed the State government’s decision to restrict the homestay scheme to permanent residents of Uttarakhand, calling it a positive step toward sustainable tourism and local empowerment.
The decision was approved on Thursday during a cabinet meeting chaired by Pushkar Singh Dhami, which cleared amendments to the Uttarakhand Tourism, Travel Businesses, and Bed-and-Breakfast Regulation–2025. The conclave saw participation from 50 tour operators from across the country, organised in collaboration with the Association of Domestic Tour Operators of India (ADTOI). Discussions focused on the vast potential of winter tourism and positioning Uttarakhand as a year-round tourism destination. The District Tourism Department of Pithoragarh, in collaboration with Starscapes Experiences Pvt. Ltd., has inaugurated the region’s first dedicated astro-tourism observatory. The Uttarakhand government will soon roll out a ‘Snow Leopard Tour’ to promote winter tourism in the state, Tourism Secretary Dheeraj Singh Garbyal said.
The initiative, inspired by the Ladakh model, will open select high Himalayan regions such as Gangotri to tourists during winter in a controlled manner. The programme will be launched on a pilot basis with a snow leopard sighting project in Gangotri National Park, located in Uttarkashi.
The Uttarakhand government has stepped up efforts to improve hill connectivity by fast-tracking six priority ropeway corridors as part of a larger plan covering 50 proposed projects across the state.
Work has already been allotted for the key pilgrimage routes Sonprayag–Kedarnath ropeway and Govindghat–Hemkund Sahib ropeway. The Kathgodam–Hanumangadhi Temple ropeway in Nainital awaits approval, while a DPR is being prepared for the Kanakchauri–Kartik Swami corridor.

The Char Dham Yatra recorded a total pilgrim turnout of 48.3 lakh this year, marking an increase of 2 lakh devotees compared to 46.1 lakh last year. The surge in footfall was witnessed across all four revered shrines—Kedarnath, Badrinath, Gangotri, and Yamunotri—reflecting a strong rise in pilgrimage activity in Uttarakhand.
More than 35,000 devotees visited Adi Kailash during the yatra that began on May 30 this year. Pilgrims also paid visits to Om Parvat, Gauri Kund, Parvati Kund, and Bhim ki Kheti.

Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami on Wednesday virtually flagged off helicopter services on the Pithoragarh–Munsyari route under the Centre’s UDAN (Regional Connectivity Scheme).

The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has approved the resumption of helicopter operations for the 2025 Char Dham Yatra from September 15–16, following the monsoon break, an official release said.

The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has authorized the resumption of Chardham Yatra helicopter services from September 15–16, following the monsoon break, with stricter safety regulations in place. The approval came after a comprehensive inspection of helipads, helicopters, operator preparedness, and support facilities conducted between September 13 and 16, as stated by the Civil Aviation Ministry.

A total of 237 pilgrims—including 171 men and 66 women—in five batches have successfully passed through Pithoragarh as part of the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra so far.
Kumaon Mandal Vikas Nigam (KMVN) Managing Director Vineet Tomar credited the safe and smooth conduct of the Yatra to coordinated efforts by the district administration, Indo-Tibetan Border Police, Border Roads Organisation, National Disaster Response Force, State Disaster Response Force, the Health Department, and other agencies.
Despite challenges such as adverse weather, roadblocks, and early evacuation of a few pilgrims, he said strong teamwork ensured that every pilgrim—treated as a VVIP—completed the journey safely.
From August 1, 2025, all tourists visiting Mussoorie must register online via the official website, as mandated by the National Green Tribunal (NGT). Despite challenging weather in Uttarakhand, the Chardham Yatra and Hemkund Sahib pilgrimage broke all records, with 41,12,995 devotees visiting by July 28, 2025. Kedarnath led with 14,39,666 visitors, followed by Badrinath (12,05,798), Gangotri (6,62,989), Yamunotri (5,80,433), and Hemkund Sahib (2,23,809). With around 2,000 daily registrations, the growing number of pilgrims reflects their unwavering devotion.

According to the tourism department, more than 5.50 lakh devotees have visited the four Dhams from 30 April to 11 May. Out of these, 2.27 lakh devotees visited Kedarnath Dham, 1.17 lakh in Badrinath, 94251 in Gangotri, 1.13 lakh in Yamunotri.

Uttarkashi, Chamoli, Rudraprayag, Pithoragarh, and Bageshwar are expected to be severely affected, with isolated hail, thunder, and strong winds. District administrations are on high alert, and authorities have advised the public to avoid non-essential travel and adhere to safety guidelines.
District Tourism Development Officer Lata Bisht said that Uttarakhand Tourism and Travel Business Registration Rules 2014 (revised 2016) have been promulgated by Uttarakhand Tourism Culture and Sports Section-01. Under this, it will be necessary for all tourism related units of the state to get registered.
Along with the application, many important documents have to be submitted like PAN card of the owner of the unit, copy of approved building map, affidavit, photographs of the tourism unit, copy of GST registration, no objection certificate from the fire department and pollution control board, land related documents and FSSAI certificate.
The registration fee has been fixed at Rs 1000, which will be deposited through online medium.
The Tourism Department has appealed to all the concerned units to get registered on time, so that they can get the benefit of departmental schemes and facilities. The tourism and travel business related units to which this rule will be applicable include hotels, motels, traveller rest houses, guest houses, tent colonies, dharamshalas, ashrams, restaurants, fast food centres, food courts, travel agents, tour operators, entertainment and adventure tourism units, handicrafts, souvenir shops, yoga meditation cottages, adventure and wildlife tourism units.
For the 2025 Char Dham Yatra, Uttarakhand has deployed 6,000 police personnel, 17 PAC companies, and 10 paramilitary units. SDRF teams are positioned at 65 accident-prone zones for safety, and police are ensuring smooth traffic flow, with heightened alertness following the Pahalgam terror attack.

Garhwal Mandal Vikas Nigam (GMVN) has announced special concessional offers and upgraded services for its privileged customers, starting from the next season in April-May 2025.

A Green Cess fee, ranging from ?20 to ?80, will be imposed on both commercial and private vehicles. The charges are ?20 for three-wheelers, ?40 for four-wheelers, ?60 for medium vehicles, and ?80 for heavy vehicles. Additionally, provisions will be available for quarterly and annual passes to make payments more convenient.
Automatic number plate recognition cameras will identify vehicles registered outside Uttarakhand. The cess amount will be deducted directly from the FASTag wallet of vehicle owners, with the system expected to be operational by the end of December.
Certain vehicles are exempted from the Green Cess, including two-wheelers, electric and CNG vehicles, those registered in Uttarakhand, and vehicles engaged in essential services such as ambulances and fire brigades.

The Uttarakhand government is launching an exclusive helicopter service for Same Day Adi Kailash and Om Parvat tours in Pithoragarh district. Set to begin on Dec15, this unique aerial darshan experience will be available at an effective cost of Rs 46,000 per person, with the government providing a subsidy of Rs 26,000 from the standard Rs 72,000 ticket price. An MoU for this initiative has been signed with Rudraksha Aviation Pvt Ltd, officials announced.
A 24-seater MI-17 helicopter will be used for the tour, though each sortie will carry only 18 passengers to ensure safety and comfort at the high altitudes of 16,000 to 17,000 feet. Each flight will last over two hours, departing from and returning to Naini Saini Airport in Pithoragarh.

Heavy rainfall in Uttarakhand has triggered landslides, leading to road blockages and significant disruptions. Villages have been cut off, highways blocked, and the pilgrimage to Adi Kailash has been suspended. One casualty has been reported in Chamoli district. Authorities are actively working to clear the blocked roads and manage the aftermath of these natural disasters.
The Char Dham Yatra in Uttarakhand is set to commence on May 10, and even before its initiation, a record-breaking number of devotees have registered. According to the tourism department report, 494,129 registrations have been recorded for Kedarnath, 414,260 for Badrinath, 265,110 for Gangotri, 243,982 for Yamunotri, and 21,804 for Hemkund Sahib.

The Dehradun-Amritsar flight will take off from Amritsar at 12.00 pm and reach Dehradun at 1.10 pm. The flight to Amritsar will take off from Dehradun at 1.35 pm and reach the Punjab city at 2.45 pm.
Dehradun to Varanasi Flight
The flight from Dehradun to Varanasi will take off from the Uttarakhand capital at 9.50 am and reach Pantnagar at 10.35 am. The flight from Pantnagar will take off at 11.15 am and land in Varanasi at 1.00 pm. The return flight from Varanasi will take off at 1.40 pm and reach Pantnagar at 3.25 pm. It will begin its journey to Dehradun from Pantnagar at 3.50 pm and arrive at 4.35 pm.

Under the UDAAN Scheme, Uttarakhand Government has started Helicopter Services from Haldwani to Pithoragarh, Munsiyari & Champawat from 22 Feb 2024. Heli Services from Haldwani will be available from Gaulapar Helipad to Pithoragarh, Munsiyari & Champawat.
A seven seater helicopter will operated by Air Heritage fly 2 times a day from Haldwani to each destination. The ticket price for helicopter service from Haldwani will be INR 2500 per person for Champawat, INR 3000 for Pithoragarh and INR 3500 for Munsiyari.

Hemkund Sahib Opening and Closing Dates has been annouced for 2024. Hemkund Sahib will open on 25 May 2024 and closed on 10 Oct 2024.

Snowfall was reported on Monday in regions such as Kedarnath Dham, including Madmaheshwar, Tungnath, Chandrashila, etc. Additionally, light snowfall was observed in tourist spots like Chopta, Dugalbitta and in Deoriatal.
The phenomenon extended to Gangotri and Yamunotri Dham, Harshil Valley, and other high-altitude areas of Uttarkashi. Despite the snowfall, road movements remained unaffected at present.
There is a chance of light snowfall in elevated areas of the state, surpassing an altitude of 2500 meters. According to the weather forecast released by the Centre, a yellow alert has been issued for adverse weather conditions in Dehradun, including Tehri, Pauri, Champawat, Nainital, Udham Singh Nagar, and Haridwar districts tomorrow, i.e., on 21 February 2024.
In a first of its kind initiative, the government of Uttarakhand is set to refurbish six houses located in Jadung Village, into homestays, which would be operated/run by villagers. Under the Vibrant Village Programme, the houses will be refurbished in vernacular architecture using locally available material.

On Wednesday, President Draupadi Murmu made a visit to the Badrinath shrine, marking the second day of her three-day trip to Uttarakhand.

All temples governed by the Shri Badrinath-Kedarnath Temple Committee, including the Badrinath and Kedarnath shrines, will observe closure at 4 pm on Saturday due to the lunar eclipse.
The Badrinath and Kedarnath temples are scheduled to reopen during the brahma muhurta after the morning purification puja on Sunday.
Other affiliated shrines affected by the closure include the Shri Narasingh Temple in Joshimath, Second Kedar Madmaheshwar, Third Kedar Tungnath, Shri Omkareshwar Temple in Ukhimath, and Yoga Badri.
