How to Reach Chakrata by Road

Location of Chakrata

Chakrata is a cantonment town nestled in the midst of Yamuna and Tons river in Dehradun District of Uttarakhand. It is located about 100 km northwest of Dehradun and can be easily reached from Dehradun via Mussoorie or Vikasnagar. The distance between Delhi to Chakrata approximately is 326 km via NH44. One can easily reach Chakrata by taking a taxi or shared jeep, one can also enjoy the lush green and scenic drive of 4 hours from Dehradun to Chakrata.

By Road: Chakrata is well connected with motorable roads. Luxury and normal Buses to Mussoorie, Dehradun, and Chakrata are available from ISBT Kashmiri Gate, New Delhi. Buses and Taxis to Chakrata are easily available from major destinations of the Garhwal regions of Uttarakhand state. Chakrata is also well connected by motorable roads with Himachal Pradesh.

One can either drive or take a taxi to Chakrata. It is about 4 hrs drive from Dehradun and 3 hrs from Ponta Sahib. There are two ways of going there, the traditional one is through Herbertpur and Kalsi (98 kms) and the other is through Mussoorie and Yamuna Bridge (100 kms).

Please Note: Petrol Pump is not available in Chakrata, so make sure you fill petrol or diesel at the nearest petrol pump at Vikasnagar or Haripur.

By Air: Jolly Grant Airport is the nearest Airport to Chakrata situated at a distance of 113 kms from Chakrata. Taxis are easily available from Jolly Grant Airport to Chakrata. Jolly Grant Airport is well connected to Delhi with daily flights and is well connected by motorable roads with Chakrata.

By Rail: The nearest railway station to Chakrata is the Dehradun Railway station. The distance from Dehradun to Chakrata is 87 kms. and taxis and buses are easily available from Dehradun to Chakrata. Dehradun is well connected by railway networks with major destinations of India. Shatabdi Express and Mussoorie Express are the two major trains connecting Dehradun with major cities of India and have excellent rail network with all important cities like Amritsar, Howrah, Bombay, Delhi, Lucknow, Varanasi, etc.
