History of Vikas Nagar

Formerly known as Chauhadpur Nardidih, Vikas Nagar was renamed as a result of the series of developments and growth that followed after Independence. The growth was attributable to several hydroelectric power projects that were laid down. 

In 1965, Late Shri Mahavir Tyagi who was then the Union Cabinet Minister for Rehabilitation and the Member of Parliament from the region, changed the name from Chauhadpur to Vikasnagar.
