Valley of Flowers is a bouquet from the Gods that has been bestowed upon us in the form of lush green meadows covered with the plethora of bright and vivid flowers and shrubs and blissful natural beauty. Situated at an altitude of 11,000 ft to 12,000 ft above sea level in Chamoli district of Uttarakhand, this mesmerizing valley consists various kind of flora that blooms in June until September. Best time to visit this valley is July and August. It is 3 kms from the nearest town of Ghangaria.
Frank S. Smythe, Eric Shipton and R.L. Holdsworth discovered this valley when they were returning from a successful Mt. Kamet Expedition in 1931. They were lost their way and stumbled upon this floral valley, which was shrouded in oblivion to the outside world. Laden with beautiful flowers and shrubs, they aptly named the place as “Valley of Flowers”. Few kilometres from this valley is the revered shrine of Hemkund Sahib (15,197 ft), a famous Sikh pilgrimage site from where one can see snow clad peaks, a beautiful lake beside the Gurudwara. Around the lake, one can see multitudes of Brahmakamal (lotus of Brahma), the state flower of Uttarakhand. Hemkund Sahib is a 6-km quiet ascend trek from Ghangaria. One can also reach there by riding mules.
After reaching early morning in Haridwar or Rishikesh, our vehicle will be waiting for your pick up with your rucksack and equipments. Breakfast and lunch will be provided on the way. En route to Govindghat, you will pass through many well known places which are famous for their beautiful views as well as religious significance like Rishikesh, Devprayag, Srinagar, Dhari Devi, Rudraprayag, Karnaprayag, Chamoli, Joshimath and Vishnuprayag. You can also view all the five famous confluences of rivers (Panchprayag) of Uttarakhand- Alaknanda and Bhagirathi at Devprayag; Alaknanda and Mandakini at Rudraprayag; Pinder and Alaknanda at Karnaprayag; Nandakini and Alaknanda at Nandaprayag; and Alaknanda and Dhauliganga at Vishnuprayag. It will a long journey albeit full of scenic beauty, villages, hills and mountains. We will reach Govindghat at around 6 pm. Overnight stay will be in a hotel or guesthouse.
We get up early in the morning as today we have a 13 km long trek ahead of us to reach Ghangaria. Morning tea, breakfast, and lunch will be provided on the way. Trek route is quite broad, clean and well marked. We trek along with Pushpawati river meanwhile views of Hathi Parvat peak, waterfalls and hamlets will leave you awestruck. We will reach Ghangaria around 6 pm. Overnight stay will be at Ghangaria.
Today we start our trek to the mesmerizing “Valley of Flowers’’. After breakfast, we going to start our trek towards Valley of Flowers. This floral valley is just 3km from Ghangaria. Flowers and shrubs will greet you on the way and it’s a sure sign that the valley is closer. After crossing a river, there is an ascent of 1km and then 1 km straight route to valley. The trek route passes through Valley of Flowers and on both side we will see multitudes of myriad flora that covers the entire valley. We will go up to 2 km in the valley and return back via memorial of Joan Margaret Legge, who lost her life here when she slipped whilst exploring this valley. After exploring this incredible valley, we return to Ghangaria for night halt.
We wake up early in the morning to catch the mesmerizing sunrise. Today the trek involves a 6km ascent and a 6 km descent. On the way, you can enjoy majestic view of the valley, snow capped peaks, waterfalls, flora and fauna. It takes 2-3 hours to reach the shrine of Hemkund Sahib from Ghangaria. View of Hemkunt Sahib is very picturesque. In a nearby Hemkund lake, one can see the clear reflection of snow capped peaks. After visiting the revered Hemkund Sahib, we return to Ghangaria.
Today we start a 13 km trek downwards to Govindghat. It takes around 4-5 hours to reach Govindghat. From here our vehicle will be ready for your further journey towards Badrinath shrine & Mana Village. After the temple visit in Badrinath, you can see majestic Neelkanth peak, Vashudhara, Bheempul and Mana village. After exploring Mana village, we return back to Badrinath for the overnight stay.
Get up early in the morning and take a dip in hot springs (Taptkund), near the Badrinath temple. We will have tea and breakfast and then depart to Rishikesh/Haridwar alongside Alaknanda River. It will take 10 hours to reach Rishikesh/Haridwar. This whole trek showed us creation of nature & it is the unparallel beauty. Trekkers can enjoy some adventure activities in Rishikesh like white water rafting, camping in jungle, kayaking, Bungee jump, air safari etc.
