The Kathgodam–Hanumangarhi Ropeway is a proposed ropeway project in Nainital district that aims to improve connectivity between Kathgodam and Hanumangarhi Temple. Planned under the Government of India's Parvatmala Pariyojana, the project is expected to provide faster travel for tourists and pilgrims while reducing pressure on the existing hill roads.
Once completed, the ropeway will offer an alternative mode of transport to one of Nainital's important religious landmarks and is expected to strengthen tourism infrastructure in the Kumaon region.
The proposed ropeway is intended to improve connectivity between Kathgodam and Hanumangarhi Temple, one of the important viewpoints and religious sites near Nainital. The project is expected to provide an alternative to the existing road route, particularly during weekends and peak tourist seasons when traffic congestion is common.
Once operational, the ropeway is expected to provide a direct aerial connection between Kathgodam and Hanumangarhi Temple, reducing dependence on the existing mountain road.

Launched under the National Ropeways Development Programme (Parvatmala Pariyojana), the project was first tendered in early 2024 by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) through its subsidiary, National Highways Logistics Management Limited (NHLML).
It gained priority status in December 2025 during a high-level meeting chaired by Uttarakhand Chief Secretary Anand Vardhan, where it was identified as one of six key ropeway projects to enhance pilgrimage and tourism connectivity across the state.
Government agencies are also examining future connectivity with other important tourist and religious destinations in the region as part of long-term ropeway planning.
The project forms part of Uttarakhand's long-term plan to improve connectivity to major tourist and pilgrimage destinations using ropeway infrastructure under the Parvatmala programme.
As of 2026, the project is in the planning stage. Construction work has not yet started and further approvals and project-related formalities are in progress.
The proposed ropeway will connect Kathgodam with Hanumangarhi Temple near Nainital over an aerial distance of approximately 15 km.
Project alignment and station locations may undergo revisions during the detailed planning and approval process.
Hanumangarhi Temple is located on a hill overlooking Nainital and is visited by pilgrims as well as tourists throughout the year.
