SaptKund Trek is a lesser known trek in the Himalayas and is a challenging one. However, the trek trail goes through diverse and beautiful flora and fauna, mesmerizing landscapes, and wonderful surprises along the way.

About Sapt Kund Trek

SaptKund Trek is a challenging trek and the total distance (up and down) that will be covered in the trek is about 53 kms. The trek starts from Ghuni Village. However, many trekkers also begin their trek from Ramni and Pagna Village based on their convenience. Both of the villages are located in Chamoli district.

It is believed that Lord Shiva resided here and every year an annual ritual is held where the locals from the surrounding villages come together and take part in the ritual. 

Being a lesser known trek, SaptKund Trek offers a peaceful journey where in you can take in the natural wonders of the trek without being disturbed by the crowd. The best part of this trek is Simbe Bugyal which is a pristine meadow full of wide varieties of flowers.

The highlight of the trek is the “Simbe Bugiyal”, which welcomes the visitors with the most beautiful blanket of flowers if chosen the right season.

Sapt Kund Trek Travel Tips

  • As there are no villages throughout the trek to SaptKund, ensure that you have enough eatables and other necessities for the journey.
  • Carry your identity card and passport sized photographs.
  • Ghat is the nearest town from Sapt kund. It is advisable to get your cash, fill in petrol, and buy other necessities from Ghat itself.
  • Do not forget to carry medical kit for headaches, cold, cough, stomach ache, etc. as you could need them during your trek.
  • Carry appropriate woollen clothing, shoes, and equipment for trekking and camping. Even if you travel in summers, you will need warm clothes for the trek. 
  • Get detailed guidelines for the trek from your guide/agency beforehand and prepare the required items well in advance.
  • The best time for Sapt Kund Trek is during the summer months of May – June and post monsoon months of August and September.
  • Sapt Kund is a high-altitude challenging trek covering a distance of around 53 km, it is essential that you check your fitness level, skill and experience in trekking before undertaking the trek.
  • Owing to the altitude and duration of the trek, altitude sickness and AMS can be a problem for some. Notice if you are feeling nauseous, having headaches, or not feeling well. Inform your group and your guide and practice some relaxation measures like slow deep breathing.
  • A serious form of altitude sickness is AMS and you shouldn’t neglect it. Any sort of discomfort must be talked through with the group.
  • To avoid such situations, have water at regular intervals, breathe properly, take regular breaks, and do not over exert yourself.

Best time for Sapt Kund Trek

The best time to visit SaptKund is during the months of May to September.

The summer months from May and June offers beautiful views and an ideal and safe condition for trekking. Simbe Bugyal blooms at its finest during these months.

The monsoon months of July and August offers fresh views however the route can get very difficult and tricky. It is advisable only for experienced trekkers.

The post-monsoon months of September and October are cool and the freshness of the places can be felt throughout the trek. Avoid trekking during winter months as temperature falls sharply during this time.

   

How to Reach Sapt Kund

The trek to Sapt Kund starts from the small village of Ghuni in Chamoli district. Ghuni lies 16 km from the town of Ghat and 26 km from Chamoli.

By road: The route to Ghuni Village from Delhi is as follows: Delhi - Haridwar - Rishikesh - Devprayag - Srinagar - Rudraprayag - Nandprayag - Ghat - Ghuni

From Delhi, get into the bus for Haridwar. After reaching Haridwar, you will start your journey to Ghat which is located at a distance of about 230 km from Haridwar. Buses and jeeps are available from Haridwar to Ghat. Jeeps are available from Ghat to Ghuni Village.
