About Bhalu Dam

The Bhalu Dam is an artificial lake (reservoir)adorned in the preserved forest area located about 3 km from Chaubatia and 11km from Ranikhet. In order to quench the thirst of soldiers, this dam wasconstructed in 1903 by the then viceroy. 

Near RanikhetBhalu Dam is located near Ranikhet Almora about 3-4 kms from Chaubatiya Garden on an isolated corner. A small hike will lead you to this dam.

Location & How to Reach Bhalu Dam

In order to reach Bhalu Dam, one has to partake in a 3-km strenuous trek from Chaubatia Orchards. Out of the 3km trek, 2km of it is pretty steep which is easier for tourists when descending to the Bhalu dam and quite exhausting when ascending back to Chaubatia. Please keep in mind no vehicle will be able to reach the dam as the road are in poor conditions. Nearest railway station is located at Kathgodam – some 79 kms away from Chaubatia while the closest airport is located at Pantnagar at a distance of 110 kms.
