
The Dehradun to Mussoorie Trek is a popular uphill hiking route connecting Rajpur Road in Dehradun with Mussoorie through Jharipani and Barlowganj. The trail passes through forest sections, village paths and mountain viewpoints, offering an alternative way to reach Mussoorie on foot.
One of the major attractions along the route is Jharipani Falls, located near the trekking trail. The trek also offers several viewpoints overlooking the Doon Valley and surrounding hills, making it a preferred day trek near Dehradun.
The Dehradun to Mussoorie Trek covers approximately 12–13 km and generally takes 3 to 5 hours depending on fitness level, weather conditions and rest stops along the route.
The trek begins near Shahanshahi Ashram on Rajpur Road and gradually ascends towards Jharipani and Barlowganj before reaching Mussoorie. Most trekkers complete the trek in a single day and return by taxi, bus or shared transport from Mussoorie.

The trek can be undertaken throughout most of the year. However, weather conditions vary by season and may affect trail conditions, visibility and overall trekking experience.
Summer Season (March to June): This is an ideal time for the trek as the weather is warm but not too hot, making it comfortable for hiking. The lush greenery and clear skies enhance the experience, creating a beautiful and enjoyable journey. During this time, trekkers can also explore waterfalls along the route, taking a refreshing dip and chilling in the cool, cascading waters to beat the heat.
Winter Season (November to February): The winter months bring a chill in the air, with temperatures dropping significantly, especially in higher altitudes. This season offers a unique experience with cool weather, clear skies, and a chance to witness the stunning views of snow-covered peaks. If you enjoy a crisp atmosphere and less crowded trails, winter could be the perfect time for you. Just make sure to dress warmly!
Monsoon Advisory: During July to September, sections of the trail may become slippery due to rainfall. Trekkers should check weather conditions before starting and use proper trekking footwear.
The trek starts near Shahanshahi Ashram on Rajpur Road in Dehradun. From here, trekkers follow the uphill trail towards Jharipani and continue through forested sections to Barlowganj before reaching Mussoorie.
Water and refreshments may be available at some points along the route, but trekkers should carry sufficient drinking water, snacks and weather-appropriate clothing. After reaching Mussoorie, visitors can explore the town and return to Dehradun by road.
