Festivals in Rishikesh

In Rishikesh we can see the true colors of Hindu festivals. But here some festivals are different from Hindu calendar. People use to come across the country for these festivals.

Festivals mean colors, dance, music, food, and gathering of people after a long time. Festivals are the periods of celebration and an important part of Indian life. Festivals are all about forgetting past, creed, class, color, and caste and make everyone happy.  

Some of the popular festivals in Rishikesh are:

International Yoga and Musical Festival

International Yoga Festival is organized every year since November 2008 by Nad Yoga Trust, a non-profit organization with an aim to give knowledge about yoga. After that from 1st March to 7th March, this day is celebrated in Rishikesh, people from a different place and across the country participate in the yoga festival.

It is Organized annually by the Uttarakhand State Tourism Department. Different styles of yoga and asanas we can see in this Yoga Festival. Yoga provides peace to the mind, body, and soul. International Kayak Festival

The Ganga River is one of the largest and most powerful rivers in the world. Rishikesh is at the forefront of adventure water sports in the country and the area near Rishikesh holds some of the exciting rapids. The festival consists of three competitions; Boater Cross, Down River Race and Mass Boater Cross. All three competitions are for professional level kayakers. This International kayak competition was the first kayak competition to be held in India in 2013.

It was originally designed to encourage and introduce more Indian paddlers to the sport of kayak competitions. It is also open to international competitors and is quickly becoming a truly international festival.

There are also two separate categories for beginners and women in the Down River Race only. Every year competition held at Golf Course rapid, one of the fastest and most challenging rapids on the river Ganga. The venue is set up on a beachfront area surrounded by the forested hills of the Garhwal mountain range, a beautiful place for viewers.
