Lakhamandal is a famous temple located in Chakrata region. The deity of temple is Lord Shiva. Remains of several temples still exist in the Lakhamandal premises. Here, the Shivling is made of graphite which shines on pouring water on it.

Lakhamandal - History & Epic

Located at 100 km from Chakrata, Lakhamandal is also a place of historical and mythological significance in India. As per legends, in Hindu epic Mahabharata, Lakhamandal is the same place where Duryodhan tried to kill the Pandavas by making them stay at a palace the  'Laksha Grah', the house made of Wax.

Outside the main shrine of Lakhamandal, there are two well carved statues. People believe these statues are of Arjun and Bheem or Danav (Evil) and Manav (Good) or two doormen. Inscription in the temple dates back 8th to 15th century of Gupta period.

Location & How to Reach Lakhamandal

Lakhamandal is located at 100 kms in Mussoorie road from Chakrata. Visitors can reach Lakhamandal by bus or by hiring taxi from Chakrata. Nearest railway station to reach Lakhamandal is Dehradun Railway Station (107 kms) and airport at Jolly Grant Airport (130 kms).
