Neem Karori Baba, also known as Maharaj-ji, was a revered Hindu saint and an ardent devotee of Lord Hanuman. He is widely remembered for his simple teachings centred on devotion, selfless service, compassion and remembrance of God. His spiritual influence continues through his ashrams, especially Kainchi Dham in Uttarakhand, which attracts devotees from India and around the world.
Although his original name is generally recorded as Lakshman Narayan Sharma, devotees know him by several names including Neem Karori Baba, Neeb Karori Baba and Maharaj-ji. The spelling "Neem Karoli Baba" has become widely popular over the years and is commonly used by pilgrims and visitors.
About Neem Karori Baba
Neem Karori Baba spent much of his life travelling across northern India before establishing ashrams that became centres of spiritual practice and service. His teachings did not rely on lengthy discourses but encouraged devotees to practise love, humility, honesty and service to others.
Among all the places associated with Maharaj-ji, Kainchi Dham in Uttarakhand became the most prominent. Today thousands of devotees visit the ashram every year to seek blessings and participate in the annual Bhandara held in June.
Neem Karori Baba attained Mahasamadhi on 11 September 1973 in Vrindavan. His samadhi shrine remains an important pilgrimage destination for his followers.

Kainchi Dham Ashram near Nainital is the most well-known temple and ashram associated with Neem Karori Baba. Established in the 1960s, it continues to serve as a major spiritual centre where devotees gather for worship, meditation and the annual Bhandara held every June.
History of Kainchi Dham
Kainchi Dham is located about 17 km from Nainital on the Bhowali–Almora road. Neem Karori Baba established the ashram in 1964 after identifying the site as a suitable place for spiritual practice. The name "Kainchi" refers to the two sharp hairpin bends on the nearby mountain road that resemble a pair of scissors.
Since its establishment, the ashram has become one of Uttarakhand's most visited spiritual destinations. Every year on 15 June, thousands of devotees attend the annual Bhandara organised to commemorate the ashram's foundation.

Best Time to Visit Kainchi Dham
Kainchi Dham remains open throughout the year. March to June and September to November are generally considered the best months for a comfortable visit. The annual Bhandara held on 15 June attracts thousands of devotees, so visitors should expect heavy crowds during this period.

Another option is Indira Gandhi International Airport (DEL) in New Delhi, which is about 330 kilometers away. From the airport, you can hire a taxi or use other available transportation to reach Kainchi Dham.
By Train: The nearest railway station to Kainchi Dham is Kathgodam Railway Station, which is around 40 kilometers away. From the railway station, you can hire a taxi or use local transport to reach Kainchi Dham.
By Road: You can find regular bus services from Delhi to Nainital or Haldwani. Once you reach Nainital or Haldwani, you can take local buses or hire a taxi to cover the remaining distance to Kainchi Dham, which is about 17 kilometers from Nainital.
