About Lamkhaga Pass Trek

Situated at an elevation of 5,282 metres, Lamkhaga Pass is a high altitude pass in Garhwal Himalayas which connects with Sangla in Himachal Pradesh. Due to its altitude and remoteness, Lamkhaga Pass is considered one of the toughest treks in Uttarakhand Himalayas. The Lamkhaga Pass was first crossed by Greek-British mountaineer Marco Pallis in 1933.

Trek Route

The Lamkhaga Pass trek commences from Harsil in Uttarakhand and concludes at Chitkul village in Himachal Pradesh.

Rishikesh – Uttarkashi – Harsil – Kyarkoti – Lamkhaga Pass BC – Lamkhaga Pass – Gundar – Dumti – Rani Kanda – Chitkul

Day 1: Rishikesh – Uttarkashi (185km/6 hrs)

Leave Rishikesh early in the morning towards Uttarkashi located 6-hour drive away. The route to Uttarkashi meanders along with the Bhagirathi River coupled with mesmerizing Himalayan landscape. Reach Uttarkashi by evening and check into the hotel or guesthouse for overnight stay.

Day 2: Uttarkashi – Harsil (75km/5 hrs)

Leave for Harsil early morning which is located 75 kms away from Uttarkashi. Harsil is a beautiful tourist destination known for its pleasant weather and enchanting landscape. Check into the hotel or guesthouse for overnight stay.

Day 3: Harsil – Kyarkoti (14km/5 hrs)

The trek to Lamkhaga Pass commences from Harsil with a 14-km climb to Kyarkoti via dense oak and rhodenderon forests. Overnight stay will be in camps beside the majestic Kyarkoti Lake.

Day 4: Kyarkoti – Lamkhaga Pass BC(16km/7hrs)

Leave early on the morning towards Lamkhaga base camp which is located 16km away. Trekkers need to read through a narrow valley that leads up to Lamkhaga base camp via Sukha Tal. Overnight stay will be in camps.

Day 5: Lamkhaga Pass BC – Gundar (via Lamkhaga Pass) (11km/6hrs)

Leave the base camp early in the morning towards Gundar after crossing the Lamkhaga Pass (5,280m).The rocky terrain makes traversing a little tricky with boulders lying on the way. Reach Gundar by late afternoon. Overnight stay will be in camps.

Day 6: Gundar – Dumti (15 km/6hrs)

From Gundar to Dumti, the 15-km trek route alternates between steep ascents and descents with the majestic Himalayan peaks in the foreground. Reach Dumti by evening. Overnight stay will be in camps.

Day 7: Dumti – Rani Kanda (9 km/5hrs)

Leave for Rani Kanda early while exploring the beautiful Himalayan landscape which includes lush green meadows, cascading river streams and waterfalls. Overnight stay will be in camps.

Day 8: Rani Kanda – Chitkul (10 km/5hrs)

Wake up early to enjoy the sunset. Leave Rani Kanda for Chitkul post breakfast. Chitkul is a beautiful hamlet in the Himachal Pradesh known for its exquisite natural beauty. Reach Chitkul by evening with overnight stay in camps.

The starting point of the trek is Harsil, Uttarkashi which is well connected by motorable roads. Dehradun and Rishikesh are closet railway stations and nearest airport is situated in Dehradun.
