Makkumath - Winter Seat of Tungnath

An interesting fact about Makkumath is that it serves as the winter abode of Lord Tungnath. The idol of Lord Tungnath is moved from his original place, i.e. Tungnath Temple (world’s highest Shiva Temple) and brought down to Makkumath Temple.

It is done so because, during winters, the Chandrashila-Tungnath region is covered with snow which makes it unfeasible to reach there by pilgrims, however trekkers do visit there as snow trek. The temple priests also move to Makkumath in winters
