Shri Kalyanika Himalaya Devasthanam, popularly known as the Dol Ashram is a peaceful ashram in the quaint village of Kanara (Dol), located in the Almora district of Uttarakhand. Dol Ashram is surrounded by dense forests and rests calmly at its center.

History of Dol Ashram

Dol Ashram was established by Shri Parma Yogi Kalyandasji in 1990. Shri Parma Yogi Kalyandasji was born in a small village at the Almora district of Uttarakhand. He started his spiritual journey at the age of 12 and surrendered himself to his guru, Guru Paramhansa Baba Swaroopdasji. Meditation and yoga was the central part of his spiritual life. He meditated in the Himalayas and Orissa for more than 20 years.

Shri Parma Yogi Kalyandasji had a vision of uplifting the spiritual life of people by educating them about yoga and meditation, Kalyan Das Ji established many ashrams, one of which is the Dol Ashram. He established Dol Ashram after meeting Maa Bhagwati during his Mansarovar journey. The meeting inspired him to start an ashram in the Himalayas. Kalyan Das Ji established the Dol Ashram in 1990 amidst thick forests resting peacefully in the lap of the Himalayas.

Dol Ashram Premises

Spread across about 8 acres at the centre of dense Himalayan forests, Dol Ashram is a heaven for spiritual seekers. The ashram comprises of beautiful temples, meditation hall, mesmerizing gardens, and an overall serene environment. In April 2018, the world’s biggest Shri Yantra or Shri chakra was established in Dol Ashram. With the weight of around 1600kgs, the Shri Yantra is placed in the Shri Yantra Dhyana Peetham, which serves as a meditation centre. 

The Shri Yantra, which is composed of astha dhatu, is a cosmic energy centre which brings with prosperity, health, and wisdom. The astha dhatu vibrates the cosmic energy in its environment. The concept of Shri Yantra is associated with Vedic philosophy and rituals and it is an instrument associated with Goddess Lakshmi, the goddess of wealth and prosperity.

Dol Ashram helps you embark on a spiritual journey where you live your life based on the principles of yoga and Vedanta. During your stay at the ashram, you’ll follow the routine of the ashram which eliminates the sedentary lifestyle that we are accustomed to. The crucial aspect of following the routine of ashram is to eliminate laziness which is the greatest barrier in living a spiritual life.

The yoga and meditation courses offered are based on the spiritual vision of Shri Swami Sivananda and the teaching programmes are formulated by his disciple Shri Swami Vishnudevananda. The courses explores the Vedanta philosophy, Yoga & Yoga asanas, Sanskrit, Human anatomy, Physiology, and Meditation. And helps the students use them in their daily experiences and share their knowledge.

Facilities in Dol Ashram

Dol Ashram provides food and lodging facilities to students and visitors. Accommodation facilities in Dol Ashram is top-notch with double bedded fully furnished rooms available with hot water facility. There is an in-house mess in the ashram with a seating capacity of 120 people.

The meditation hall of Dol Ashram has a capacity of around 300 people. 

There is a library in the ashram with over ten thousand books. There are books on the courses offered by the ashram and also other related subjects. The library also contains a collection of all four Vedas along with commentaries. The library is available both to students and visitors.

By road: If you are traveling by road, you can take a bus till Haldwani. Buses till Haldwani are available from Anand Vihar Delhi. Haldwani is 83kms from Dol Ashram and shared and private taxis are available from Haldwani to Dol Ashram.

By train: The nearest railway station from Dol Ashram is Kathgodam Railway Station which is 77kms from Dol Ashram. You will find shared and private taxis from Kathgodam to Dol Ashram.

By air: The nearest airport from Dol Ashram is Pantnagar Airport which is 113kms from Dol Ashram. Private taxis are available for Dol Ashram from Pantnagar.
