What's so unique about this temple?

This ancient temple is believed to be 1000 years old and is dedicated to the Goddess Nanda, the patron goddess of Chand Dynasty which ruled Kumaon for several years.  

Inside the Temple

Situated in the hallway of Shiva Temple, Nanda Devi temple features a magnificent monument adorned with a stone ‘amalaka’ or crown, encircled by a wooden roof. The walls of the temple showcase intricate carvings done by the skillful artists of that period. The visitors can admire the peculiar stone carvings that emulate life-like time images and figurines. 

Fairs and Festivals

Each year in the month of September on the Ashtami of Bhadra Shukla, the temple hosts a grand Nanda Devi Fair which is attended by a large number of people belonging to different places. 

Best Time to Visit

Since the weather is always pleasant in Almora, it can be visited all over the year. But if you want to see the natural grandeur then it is best advised to visit the temple between the months of March to June and from September to November.

By Road: Nanda Devi temple is idyllically situated in the naturally enclosed environs of Almora city. To reach this temple one needs to start their journey from ISBT Anand Vihar, New Delhi and take the bus to Almora. The temple is located at a walking distance from the Mall Road, Almora. 

By Train: Kathgodam located about 82 km away is the nearest railhead to Almora. The Kathgodam railway station is well connected with the major cities of India like Delhi, Kolkata and Lucknow. Trains are frequent to Kathgodam and one can easily hire a taxi or catch a bus to Almora from Kathgodam railway station. 

By Air: Pantnagar Civil Aerodrome located at a distance of 116 km from Almora is the nearest airport. You can directly book a taxi to Almora or if you want to save money then you can catch a bus from Haldwani, Kathgodam or Nainital to reach Almora city.
