Gorson Bugyal in Auli

Gurson Bugyal (Gorso Bugyal) is located at an altitude of 3056 mts, just 3 kms trek from Auli. It is a large land of green pastures surrounded by coniferous forest and oak trees.

You can also trek towards Chattarkund, which is just 1 km away from Gurso Bugyal.  Chattarkund is famous for its sweet water and is located in the centre of a dense forest. Do take help from local people or guide to reach Chattarkund.

Tips: It is recommended that tourist plan their trek to Gorson early morning and return before evening.

Gorson Bugyal Trek during different seasons

During spring season: There is lush green grass all over the meadow. It is the best time for camping and trekking.

During Winters: The area is covered under snow, and sometime difficult to trek or find the way. But few adventure enthusiast organise the winter trek in Gurson Bugyal.

Avoid monsoons: July–August (monsoon) due to heavy rain, slippery trails, and potential landslides; November–March due to snow.

Gorson Buygal Do's and Don'ts

Do's
1. Gorson Trek is a Plastic Free Zone. Non-compliance will be considered an offence.
2. Please carry a bag for the collection of garbage and other litter and pack all non-biodegradable rubbish.
3. Please show the copy of Permit/SMS or QR Code with ID Card when asked by Forest Department personnel.
4. Alert your team members when feeling sick, tired, altitude headache, nausea, or breathing problems. Descend immediately.
5. Respect nature and wildlife. Submit garbage at the counter.
6. The Forest Department will not be responsible for any mishap/injury/accident/death of the participant while on the trek.
Don'ts
1. Do not carry or use fuelwood, and do not bury or burn trash during the entire trek. Non-compliance will attract penal provisions under the Wildlife Protection Act 1972.
2. Don’t undertake mountaineering, climbing, swimming, or any form of adventure activity, and do not camp inside the Park Area.
3. Don’t destroy, trample, collect, or remove any plant and animal specimen, whether live or dead, or any geological specimen.
4. Don’t carry and introduce any alien seeds or propagation material of any plant species, and don’t carry and introduce any exotic animals or pets.
5. Avoid making excess noise or using speakers inside the Park (shouting only in case of an emergency).
6. Don’t fly drones inside Park Premises or Reserved Forest Areas.
7. Do not leave cigarette butts or make open fires in the forests.
8. Do not consume aerated drinks, alcohol, drugs, or any other intoxicant and throw bottles in the wild.
9. Don’t deface, put signboards, write, or paint on tree trunks, rocks, infrastructure, boundary pillars, etc.

Location: Gorson Bugyal lies near Auli, in the Chamoli district, about 16 kilometers from Joshimath. It is part of the Auli-Gorson trekking circuit and is accessible via a scenic trail from Auli or Joshimath.

How to Reach Gorson Bugyal

By Ropeway: You can take rope-way from Joshimath to the last tower. Gurson Bugyal is just 1.5 kms from the last tower of Ropeway.

By Road: One reach Joshimath from Haridwar and Rishikesh by taxi or bus. From Joshimath you can take a taxi to Auli. There is a 3 km trek to Gorson Bugyal from Auli.
