Dedicated to Lord Vishnu, Badrinath temple in Dwarahat in the Almora district of Uttarakhand is a beautiful example of imported Gahadavala-style architecture which was prevalent in the regions of Uttar Pradesh and Bihar.
The Badrinath group of temples consists of three temples with black stone idol of Vishnu in the main temple.
Dwarhat boasts of several groups of ancient temples peppered all over the region. It is believed that Pandavas spent some amount of time in the region during their exile.
The temples, though not massive in size, are intricately constructed and date back to the affluent Katyuri dynasty around 10th and 12th century. The shrine is believed to be constructed in Sikhara-style in 1085 AD as evident from the inscription ‘samvat 1105’. The Badrinath temple at Dwarhat is one of the first examples of developed temple architecture in central Himalayas.

Buses and shared taxis ply from Almora, Nainital, and Haldwani to Dwarhat on regular basis. Nearest railway station is located at Kathgodam (108 kms) while Pantnagar has the nearest airport (148 kms).
