Buddha Temple - History of Buddhism in Dehradun
Buddha Temple is a Tibetan monestary, also called as Mindrolling Monastery and was build in 1965 by his eminence the Kochen Rinpoche and few other monks for the promotion and protection of religious & cultural understanding of Buddhism. Built in Japanese architecture style, Buddha Temple complex atmosphere provides a mental peace equal to Buddhist monk. Buddha temple complex was created as one of the four schools of Tibetan religion. This temple complex is known as 'Nyigma' while other schools known as Sakya, Kagyu and Geluk respectively.
Buddha Temple - Mindrolling Monastery
Believed to be largest Buddhist reliquary in Asia, Buddha temple is visited by hundreds of tourists as well international Buddhism lovers. This marvelous Buddhism holy place Buddha temple is about 220 feet in height and has five floors enshrine statues of Buddha and Guru Padmasambhava. First three floors provides mesmerizing experience as eye catching ornate wall painting makes everyone stunned. These Lord Buddha life illustrating paintings were painted in pure gold color and about 50 artists took over three years to paint these intricate paintings.
Another major attraction of Buddha temple lies at its fourth floor. Reach out through steep wooden ladder, open circled viewing platform provides amazing 360-degree view of Doon valley. 103 feet statue of Lord Buddha is another main attraction in the temple complex. It is dedicated to the spiritual guru of Tibetan people, Dalai Lama. Visitors also like the tranquil atmosphere of the well maintained beautiful gardens and grass field surrounding the temple. With intricate decoration memory at heart and silent Doon valley view, each visitor experience true essence of Buddhism.
Shooping Complex in the temple complex has a series of shopping and eating shops. One can find a good collection of books in the Tibetan language and holy books about Buddhism. Some shops also sell clothes, artirafts and handicrafts made by Buddhist people. Near about five hundred lamas live and study in the Buddha Temple complex. Buddha Temple authorities takes care of lamas and provide them free accommodation, clothing, food, and many other facilities.
Temple garden and shops are open for all seven days but temple remains open for Sunday only for public. Visitors are requested to remove shoes before entering the main hall of Buddha temple.

Buddha Temple is located in Clement Town on Delhi-Saharanpur Road at just 4 km from ISBT Dehradun. One can be easily reach Buddha Temple by bus or local auto (vikram). Nearby railway station is Dehradun railway station (9 km) and airport for easy access is Jolly Grant Airport (31 km).
