The lake is in proximity to Mayali Pass, a strenuous trek crossing the Khatling Glacier. The best time to visit this lake is in from May-June and September-October. The trek route to Painya Tal starts from Gaurikund, crossing Kedarnath valley, then Vasuki Tal, which further leads to Painya Tal.
