It holds cultural ties to the Jagannath tradition, similar to the famous Jagannath Temple in Puri, Odisha.
Unique Idol: Unlike the wooden idols of Puri, the deity here is worshipped in the form of a black stone with seven streaks, considered a manifestation of Lord Jagannath. Locals regard it as their ancestral deity (Kul Devta) and perform rituals, including rice offerings, mirroring Puri’s practices.
Architecture: The temple’s structure reflects ancient design, though specific details about its architecture are less documented. It is described as a hidden gem, with emblems and folklores that resonate with Jagannath devotees.
Rituals: Worship occurs on Wednesdays and Sundays, with special occasions like weddings and birthdays drawing local participation. Sabyasachi has pledged to fund rituals for six months, aiding its revival.
Best Time: June to September offers pleasant weather, though monsoons (late June onwards) may affect access. Winter snow may limit visits.
Revival Efforts: The temple had been neglected for years, with daily rituals halted due to financial constraints. Its rediscovery was sparked by Odia actor Sabyasachi Mishra and his wife Archita, who visited during Bahuda Yatra in 2023, resumed prayers, and brought it to public attention via social media. This led to support from the Uttarakhand Tourism Development Board (UTDB) and local authorities.
