Joshimath-Auli Ropeway to Get a Modern Upgrade with Rs 480 Crore Project DPR Submitted

Efforts are underway to revamp the Joshimath-Auli ropeway, replacing the old structure closed due to the 2023 land subsidence. Bridkul has submitted a Detailed Project Report (DPR) worth Rs 480 crore to the government, with construction set to begin soon.

The 4.5 km ropeway will be developed in two phases:

  • Phase 1: A 2.76 km stretch from Tower No. 3 in Joshimath to Auli, featuring 11 towers and advanced mono cables. It will include a gondola system with 21 gondolas, each accommodating 6-7 passengers.
  • Phase 2: A 1.85 km section from Auli to Gorson, equipped with 7 towers and 9 gondolas.

This upgraded system will handle approximately 500 passengers per hour, enhancing the travel experience to Auli with greater ease and excitement.

IMD Issues Alert in Avalanche-Hit Chamoli; Tourist Entry Banned in Auli

Following a massive avalanche in Mana, India’s first village, the local administration has restricted tourist entry into Auli until weather conditions improve in Uttarakhand’s Chamoli district.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a fresh weather alert for the region, predicting rain, snowfall, and blizzards from March 3 onward.

Authorities have evacuated Auli, Niti Valley, and Kunwari Pass, with tourists being sent back since March 1 due to safety concerns. Entry into Auli will only be permitted once the weather stabilizes, likely by Tuesday.
